An updated A7LB spacesuit design was used to walk on the moon for Apollo 15, 16, and 17. The spacesuit on display at the museum is made of nylon, unlike the flown suits that had a cover layer made of beta cloth. Each engine produced 1.5 million pounds of thrust and burned 3.5 metric tons of fuel per second. In 2013, Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos funded an expedition to recover whatever could be found of these engines on the ocean floor, and this turbopump inlet is one of the recovered artifacts. If the portable life support system (PLSS) failed while the astronaut performed a moonwalk, the oxygen purge system would have provided breathing and cooling oxygen until the astronaut was able to return to the relative safety of the lunar module.
